John Hobbs transitioned to directing after spending many years on the agency side. As an agency art director, he worked on acclaimed campaigns for clients such as Levi's, Axe Deodorant, RollingStone and Lipton Brisk. He brings a unique skill set to directing through an eclectic background, having studied transportation and industrial design, as well as fine arts and art direction, in his hometown of Detroit. His creative outlets have also been varied. In addition to being an agency art director, he found time to cull the content and design the 'detroit issue' for international culture magazine BIG. He also spent time working on other zines, posters and album covers (hot hot heat, demolition doll rods), as well as curating gallery shows for his brooklyn based gallery, riviera (www.seeyouattheriviera.com ), which he runs with 4 friends.
