A Welsh/Canadian/Mexican Dr. Carl W. Jones is a bilingual, multicultural , communications professional. His content creation for clients has generated millions of dollars in earned media. One of the most awarded Art Directors in the Mexican advertising industry, and selected as one of the Top 20 Canadian Creative Directors by Strategy Magazine. In total he has won over 500 awards and recognitions including Cannes Lions, where he has also been a judge in Film. In total Carl has shot over 1,000 TV ads with his creative teams.
His research at the Royal College of Art RCA is on ‘Decolonizing Advertising through diversity’, which sets out to redefine the concept of advertising through his analysis of the political economy of race in Mexico, and its manifestation through the spectacle of advertising.
Carl currently teaches Digital Media/Film/TV at the University of Westminster in London (UOW), and is a research member at the University of Westminster’s Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI), a world-leading centre in the study of media and communication and renowned for its critical and international research.
Jones contributed to the book "Hacker, Maker, Teacher, Thief: Advertising's Next Generation" published by Creative Social, and has presented and published marketing papers for various academic journals and books. Carl's latest research into 'Decolonizing Advertising' was presented at SXSW in Austin Texas, and he was a guest speaker on Diversity EDI at the AAA American Academy of Advertising.
He is recognised globally as an authority on advertising, being invited to give seminars in 12 countries such as Clio’s Asia, Marketing Magazine Toronto, Korea Ad Festival, FARA festival in Bulgaria, Syracuse University USA, History of Advertising Trust UK, and at the AAA American Academy of Advertising. He has been Interviewed by major publications and media channels such as the BBC; The Telegraph; Periodico Reforma, The Face, AL Jazeera, El Pais, and his research published on news sites The Conversation.com, PBS, The India Times , and The Drum.
