PHNX Jury Interview 2024

Why did you think it was important to join the PHNX jury this year?
PHNX was born in a very complicated moment in the world due to COVID, and that feat in itself is highly appreciated. They organized an inclusive festival, and I am sure that all of us who are participating as judges appreciate it.

I have been part of all the editions, judging the best works from network agencies and independents, alongside people from all over the planet. And here I would like to pause for a moment, there is no festival like this, which is why I believe being part of PHNX is incredible.
What do you think of our hybrid jury, featuring creatives but also strategists, clients and people from all corners of the industry?
It's very enriching! We know that many festivals are for creatives made by creatives and leave out the perspectives that strategists, clients, or industry-related individuals may have of a campaign. It's another plus that PHNX has, and it's truly appreciated.
What do you think of the idea of free entry until the shortlist stage?
For independent agencies like mine, we don’t count on a large budget for festivals, therefore this format is accommodating and it allows us to be more critical with what we upload for participation.
How would you define the perfect PHNX Awards winner?
The perfect winner has creativity and great execution.
Often, we come across cases where it is evident that the results were “inflated” or pieces that were never published, for instance. Honesty and transparency are increasingly valued in the industry.
What is having the biggest impact on creative trends at the moment?
Without a doubt, AI as a creative tool is capturing all of the attention. Its power seems to be limitless. Looking at the recent launch of OpanAI’s Sora, which achieves an increasingly realistic level of detail and the speed with which it can be executed is spectacular.
Who would you nominate as your two or three “creatives of the year”?
There are many creatives that I admire and respect. It is a short selection, but these are my top 3: Tony Waissmann, Eva Santos, and Gustavo Lauria.
And a special recognition to my favorite creative: Rodsel Ticona.
